Stella

Stella aka PJ’s Stella aka Pooky aka Sweet Pea aka Peanut aka Queen of the couch. First greyhound to join us and first to leave. Born 5-17-2008 in Iowa. We met at the Panegyri Greek Festival in June of 2011. From the moment we met her, she leaned on us and rubbed up against us I think she knew she had found her new home and we had found a new companion. Stella came home to live with us on July 13, 2011.

Stella’s first career was as a racing dog. She raced at Birmingham Race Course in Alabama only winning a couple of times during the course of her career. Stella never made it past Grade C and retired before the age of 3 after falling in a couple of races. Stella’s second career was as an ambassahound helping other greyhounds find their forever homes. She excelled at this job. She faithfully spread the greyhound love twice a month for over 2 years and introduced many people to the breed and helping many hounds find homes. Stella finally retired from that job and took on her final role as queen of the couch.

Stella loved her walks. It didn’t matter what the temperature was. If the sun was out, Stella wanted to walk and in the warmer months to sunbathe. Maybe it was really the sunshine she was after. Stella really knew how to give stuffed toys the business. We would occasionally find toys in odd places like behind furniture or in the Christmas tree and wonder how it got there. After watching her play, we realized that Stella must have been playing with it and tossing it around the room when it flew through the air and landed god knows where.

We knew this day would come some day. We just thought it would not be this soon. Rest in peace sweet pea. Rest in no more pain. We hope you enjoyed your stay with us as much as we enjoyed having you in our home. Enjoy your walks. Get your suntan on. Show the dogs on the other side how you give those stuffed toys the business. We will see you again before you know it. We will love you always.
